when I brought her home from the hospital like everything seemed fine until probably about like seven months old I demanded some tests and then I found out that she she had cerebral palsy she cannot walk and she can’t talk she’s just trapped in a body she has no brain damage and she knows exactly what’s going on it took me a while to get and get over a lot of it I mean we’re never over it but definitely be able to move on from what I thought she was gonna be when she first started school I was really nervous cuz she didn’t have any way to communicate there was no one who knew how to use her talker I just remember being devastated that she was in the self-contained classroom I want her to be included with all the other kids I’ve had to go above the school district to get some of the things that we’ve needed I found the website so I started looking into it a little more I just didn’t even know that they had places just for people like faith I put faith on the waiting list all the way up here from Tacoma for provel waited for what seems to be a lifetime try about three years finally got in there when I got to prevail I was like like some weight lifted off my shoulders they’re really committed to helping the disabled community the minute she comes through the door she’s just vibrant and vivacious and she’s so so sassy here we go oh that’s looking good yeah yeah okay you want the necklace or one of my sweaters faith wants to be a fashion designer and she wants her company to be called sparkle where she can do all that with their eyes to honor machine even in the span of a session just seeing how she’s using her power wheelchair and integrating that in with how she’s communicating and what we’re communicating about is really powerful I didn’t even know what she was capable of with her device she send emails she can use the printer everything what we do is presuming potential and everyone that comes in the door we believe that communication is a human right she can access things that the rest of us take for granted that’s the journey that we take explore that and see what kind to ecology might make that possible what about some rock star here for me we do our best here to make it fun with that at the core everything else falls into place she has a wide open future in front of her I think faiths gonna rock the world her personality combined with her tenacious Ness combined with just her spark if we can support her to maximize her outcomes I think the sky’s the limit I’m excited to be there along on that journey with her she’s just like any other 12 year old faith loves to find the perfect outfit which one would you wear on both of them that one she has over 35 pairs of shoes are we gonna get rid of some shoes or what can I once she can spell better she’s probably gonna say all the things other teenagers say ready to go shopping ready to argue I might keep off mom around I see her going to college having a meaningful job provel Disney oh that she’s gonna be okay I got a phone and I’m learning to drive a power wheelchair by myself I’m learning about using my device to tell jokes he was Alexa it’s fast myself I know there’s so much more than that she can do there’s no stopping us hello my name is faith I am one year from being a teenager without the world
