[Music] I’m Matt I’m Kerri we are the stag my brother’s a Baltimore knife and sword we’re gonna be building some of your favorite weapons some weapons that you’ve never seen before this is man-at-arms reforged we’ve been noticing a lot of requests for weapons from seven deadly sins we’re gonna be making the demon sword lost fame this weapon is like a large Zambia but it has these really big deep hollow grinds we’re gonna go ahead and forge this entire piece we’ll be doing a bunch of cut work on the outside we’ll have to make a whole Bakke to fit that that’s the fitting that slides up on the backside and then it’s got a Japanese silk wrap for the handle so we’re gonna kind of mix these worlds up and make this weapon and we’ll be able to take it into the demos and see how it performs to begin working on the blade I select a piece of round stock tool steel this is obviously too much material for this weapon so I’m going to heat up the bar and nip off just the right amount [Music] pop tribe nipped off the right amount of material I will begin by tapering the bar [Music] I will flatten it and start beveling going back to the hammer Ilya now draws down and forms the shoulder which creates the tang which he draws out [Music] this will go inside of the handle to hold the sword in place [Music] using the dies of a hammer to pinch the material down he draws down the thickness along the edge it’ll be fairly rough so he’s going to be able to come back in with a top tool and smooth the surface down before hand fortune [Music] using hand hammer he now goes to the large anvil and begins to finish the bevels on this blade there’s a Center Ridge he’ll drive it down until that Center Ridge shows I’ll be using that to lay out where the circles are for the cut through and then Matt will grind that true so Ellie has done forging loss pain so now I got to go through cleanup the perimeters so I can give it the carry so you can start doing some machine work on it [Applause] I’m gonna lay out where the holes are gonna go I’m gonna make it real easy we do this fairly often with objects I’m just gonna take my phone turn my camera on and then we’ll just take this shot from overhead and then I’ll be able to put that in the background and AutoCAD throw a right over top what I need to cut and then be able to program the CNC mill from there I’m using a carbide cutter running about 3,000 rpm that should make pretty easy work of this it’ll go through cut that circle as it goes it will do all five and we’ll come back and take more depth and do it again even though we’ve purposely softened the material it can have some pretty hard spots in it so we’ll be taking pretty light cuts it’s going to go through and make fifteen or twenty passes to get the DEF alright I finally get my hands on this plate to grind it we’re gonna do a very steep hollow grind on both the front and the back edges just like it is in the anime it might not be a very long sword holy moly that’s a lot of material to take off it’s over 1/2 inch thick in the actual center so it’s gonna take me a while I’m never gonna make this blade light but I am gonna make it sharp [Music] my rough grinding of both my hollow grind is now done after watching a little bit of the anime I realized that the back edge is sharp just like the front edge so I had to take a lot more meat off my shapes now good to go the next step before he treat is to add the scoops that match the holes in the back of the blade do that I’m going to use a very little one-inch wheel grind those scoops in then we’re ready to heat treat [Music] [Music] with las vain now ground to shape I’ve decided to go ahead and start adding in detail that are on the back half of the blade I’m gonna do that with our trusty narrow wheel this narrow wheel really has allowed us to add a lot of details to different pieces very quickly this is kind of pushing the limits of what we can do with it the pattern on the back is kind of like a woven material look to it it’s very complicated my lines have to terminate sharply it is very challenging I think I can do it [Music] with the grinding out done and our designs cut in the back of the blade it’s now time to heat treat Ilya carefully controls the Forge to gain the desired temperature across the whole blade nice and even and this time we’re going to take the risk and quench it into water afterwards Ilya places it back into the Forge very carefully just for a few seconds to gain a safe temper [Music] because I left the edges a little thick to play it safe for the heat-treat since I knew we were quenching into water I now have to refine my shape a little to get the edge nice and thin to make sure we have a nice cutting blade [Music] with the garden out successfully sand casted and we have to do a little bit more fitting and polish it up iliyan al takes copper begins to form the sabaki with a double hollow grind on a shape of this blade and how wide it is this is a very difficult form to get tight he’ll work through this and eventually we’ll get it down nice on the blade mount the guard handle and begin the wrap even though we could have gotten away with some paint there will be bracing this by heating the blade and then taking the brass wire wheel and running down the surface it permanently deposits brass over the top it’ll even patina over time and show the same kind of surfaces that solid brass would all of this on a piece of steel this blade has already been hardened cement inelia will be dipping the edge in water so that they can heat the backside for the brass work but keep the edge hard [Music] [Music] billion now takes the bronze guard and begins the engraving he lays this pattern down with ease every single time I see him do this work I’m amazed [Music] this is certainly the deepest hollow grind blade we’ve ever made I’m pretty amazed at just how sharp it is be very intrigued to see with a smaller weapon like this just how it cuts [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] click here to subscribe or click here to watch more episodes thanks for watching man-at-arms reforged we need to know what you want the guys to build so tell us in the comments below what weapons you want to see next [Music]
