Paolo Nutini backs Paisley’s bid for UK City of Culture
Hello, Paisley! I’m Paolo Nutini, and I’m backing the bid because Paisley is and always has been my home. And… I love the town and you wanna see it grow. I think that…it’s a town that needs the investment, I think it knows what it’s gonna do with the investment and I think the potential is really clear. I’ve always found Paisley to have this real air of bohemia and… it’s full of artists and free thinkers and creators. And I think its gotta embrace that and not try and change that. For me, I love Paisley, I love…you know, when you walk into the centre…I think its got a beautiful composition. I see the romance of the town, I see the…I see the real beauty in it. It’s about building a structure that can tackle the more deep rooted problems, a lot of the areas that feel…that they’ve been neglected. There is 30% of the town – I think that’s about 3,000 children – they live in poverty still, you know, these things have to change It is important, we have to get behind it, we have to fix it. There’s a lot of unsung heroes in this town, there’s people like…Mike Dillion, Apollo records, there’s people like Gavin Simpson who’s re-opened it. There’s people like…Tommy McGrory, you know – who’s been helping so many young kids around there. Elizabeth Alexander, at the food bank, she’s given 7,000 food passes a year and that’s all donations so even all those people who have donated at the food bank – those people! You know, David Wallace at ‘PACE’, Craig Bickett, who’s opening up all these restaurant and trying to inject the life and bring people there at night. Jen McKay, cafés like Malatso who are open up on Christmas day and feeding people who would otherwise go without. The bid will bring new jobs, it will bring the obvious financial investment. I think the potentials clear, there’s already a new lease of life being put into the town. I’m backing the bid. So Please, go on the website, push the button. Back the bid, do the same! Much love, thank you!
