Working for ACV Auctions – Frank Vicario

I’ve worked at ACV for about 16
months now. Prior to working at ACV I worked for another larger tech
company in Buffalo. But I honed my skills doing that and knowing what I knew about ACV, once there was a position open here to kind of build the
information technology department, I came on board. The fact that I was able to be a part of a company like ACV in my hometown, it’s amazing but it’s also something to be really
proud of. This is something that started
here and this is where I’m from. So I have that pride of ownership. Everything I do kind of centers
around the tools that everybody uses to do their job. Our job is to make sure
other people can do their job. We don’t want to be in the way. If we’re doing it well, you should almost not even know we
exist. We’re just in the background
anticipating and making sure that everything
stays working. Our biggest challenge that we see every day is the level of hyper growth that the company
sees. We need to make sure that our
network can support the amount of people. We do 90& of our business on the phones. So our phones need to be
working 100% of the time. I always look to the culture fit when we’re hiring. PMA – positive mental attitude. Most of the black and white
technical stuff, at least in the world that I exist
in can be taught. But as long as you
have somebody that comes in with a great attitude, they’re always assuming positive
intent, everything else is easy. I’ve already talked about a half a
dozen people into coming working here already. I’ve been here now a year and a half. I still fall back and say it’s the smartest decision I
ever made. To be a part of something at its
inception, it’s the most exciting thing every single day.
